Distinctive, wide-ranging and soul stirring vision.
With his debut solo album, Toronto-based singer/songwriter David James Allen establishes himself as a bona fide roots music auteur, transporting us to a place that to our modern perceptions will seem uncomfortably foreign, or conversely, all too real. Listeners previously heard flashes of Allen's brilliance in his previous work with the Barrie, Ontario collective Stonetrotter, but on When The Demons Come he takes full command in bridging his wide-ranging country, folk, blues and gospel influences. To call When The Demons Comea labour of love is an understatement. By any measure, When The Demons Come is a special work of art, and a powerful introduction to one of Canada’s vital new musical voices.
Peterborough local Nick Procyshyn is a self taught singer and songwriter. He is predominantly a solo performer but occasionally plays with a three piece band or a female vocal accompaniment. He utilizes a variety of sounds and media including piano and pipe organ.
He thinks of his inspiration as borrowed from his backyard-- the warmth and sounds and particular beauty of the Kawartha Lakes. Like so many folk souls before him many of his songs attempt to harmonize a fatalistic love... or seek out new love in its various forms. Mostly, he'd like to retire to a treehouse someday and relish in whimsy and woods...
But for now he is busy working on an album for release on (hopefully) vinyl this year. He is also heading a video project he calls the "Lamp Sessions" in an attempt to document the beauty of Canadian music artists.
Little Rapids is folk music for the soul. This Peterborough based singer-songwriter examines our connection to nature and self. Their captivating lyrics and vocals combined with subtly ambient guitar put the listener at ease. Their music reaches deep within and creates a space that urges the listener to do the same. They are currently in the process of writing and recording a second EP to follow their self released and self-titled Little Rapids from 2014.
